Beyond the number

A score alone doesn't tell you whether you'll be invited. Here's what actually moves it, and where to verify the parts that depend on official updates.

Gates come before points

If your French is below your stream's hard minimum, no amount of points changes the outcome. Fix the gate first.

Québec-specific factors compound

A Québec diploma, Québec work experience, and living outside the Montréal metro can each add real points that a generic profile can't reach.

Quick answers

What is the maximum PSTQ score?

The PSTQ scoring grid totals 1,400 points across three sections: Capital humain (up to 520 points), Réponse aux besoins du marché du travail (up to 700 points), and Facteurs d'adaptation (up to 180 points).

Is English scored in the PSTQ?

No. The PSTQ only scores French-language proficiency, measured on the Échelle québécoise des niveaux de compétence en français (levels 1 to 12) across four competencies. English ability is not a scored factor.

What are the 4 PSTQ streams?

The four selection streams are Highly Qualified Skills (TEER 0-2), Intermediate and Manual Skills (TEER 3-5), Regulated Professions, and Exceptional Talent. Each stream has its own eligibility gates and hard minimums.

Does a PSTQ score guarantee an invitation?

No. A higher score improves ranking in the Arrima pool, but invitations depend on draw thresholds set for each round, which vary by stream and are not published in advance.
